Payload is an open-source headless CMS written in TypeScript. The content structure is defined in code, the admin installs into Next.js, and any frontend gets content through REST, GraphQL or a local API. The whole system runs on your own infrastructure. Synapse Team also uses Payload for the agency’s own website.
Pick the service that matches your project, or start the brief and we route it for you.

Custom softwarePayload fits best when your team updates content every week and the site holds more than pages and news: catalogs, case studies, prices, team. The admin adapts to your business, not the other way around.
Payload is not right for every project. Here is when we honestly recommend another option, and build it ourselves.

AI speeds up development, engineers guarantee quality: a senior engineer reviews the content structure, admin setup and data import before release. Prefer a traditional process? We run that too, with the same quality bar.

Reviews
Payload is configured in code, not plugins: the content structure is stored together with the site code, there are no dozens of plugins to keep updating, and the frontend is fully yours. WordPress is still the better choice when your team is already used to its admin, and we say so honestly.
The CMS does not change our pricing:
Describe your project in the chat and the team sends a precise fixed-price estimate within one business day.
Yes. Editors get an easy panel with drafts, roles and preview, no code involved. We hand over every project with editor training and short docs. This is also how we edit texts, prices and reviews on our own site.
No. Payload integrates best with Next.js, but any frontend gets content through REST, GraphQL or a local API. Our own site, for example, pairs Payload with an Astro frontend.
Payload is open source under the MIT license and has been developed by the Payload team at Figma since 2025. The system runs on your server, so the database, the admin and the content stay yours, with no vendor lock-in.
